Police: Baby dies after being left inside hot vehicle

ALEXANDRIA, Va. -

Alexandria Police say an 8-month-old boy died Friday after being left inside a hot vehicle in Arlington.

Police say they were called after the mother brought the baby to Inova Alexandria Hospital Friday afternoon, where he was pronounced dead.

According to police, it appears the mother forgot to drop off her baby at the daycare and left the infant inside the vehicle when she went to work in Arlington.

"There is an investigation to determine what happened, why it happened and whether any sort of charges would be appropriate," said Alexandria Police Lt. Mark Bergin. "At this time, there are no charges placed and it's very early in the investigation."

Alexandria Police say Arlington County Police will investigate the case.
