SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. -

Authorities are investigating a possible abduction of a 12- or 13-year-old boy in Spotsylvania County.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office says the possible abduction occurred around 1:30 p.m. Thursday near Smith Station Road and Holleybrooke Drive.

Police say the male suspect exited a van from the front passenger side door, grabbed the boy and forced him into the van. The teen was fighting to get away and was screaming for help.

At 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Virginia State Police and the Virginia Missing Children Clearinghouse issued an endangered missing child alert for the teen. He is described as a white male, 5'1", 70 to 80 pounds, with light brown hair and was wearing a red and white striped shirt with blue cargo shorts. Police say the child is believed to be in danger.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, about 5'10" to 6' tall, 180 to 200 pounds, large size with love handles. He was wearing a black tank top with black painter's pants covered in dirt.

The vehicle is being described as a blue construction full-size van with two rear doors. The left rear door's window was tinted and the right rear door has no window and a spot of primer, possibly from recent repair work.

A neighbor told investigators she had seen the blue van in the area in the last couple of days. The witness says she called police after he saw a man force the boy inside the van and sped off, running stop signs to get away quickly.

Investigators on the scene found an abandoned gray BMX bicycle the boy was believed to be riding before the van approached him.

Police do not have a missing person's report, and until they identify the child, they do not know if the boy was taken by a stranger or a possible parental abduction.

The FBI is assisting in the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Spotsylvania Police Department at 540-507-7200, 540-582-7116 or Virginia State Police at 1-800-822-4453 (1-800-vachild).
