Pilot safe after emergency landing at Mesa airport

Updated:
MESA, Ariz. -

A pilot is safe after his plane made an emergency landing at Mesa Gateway Airport Tuesday night.

According to officials, the pilot, a man from Gilbert, noticed something was wrong with the landing gear while he was still up in the air.

The Mesa Police Department's air unit pilot communicated with the man and gave him verbal instructions on how to best land the impaired aircraft.

Using that advice, the pilot landed the aircraft without hurting himself.

Although, the aircraft did damage its landing gear, wing tip and tail.
