Lansdowne Woman's Patriotic Painting Stolen

Posted: Updated:
LANSDOWNE, Pa. -

Imagine pouring your heart, soul and days of artistic talent into a piece of work and someone steals it.

"At first I was angry and then I just got disappointed," said Cyndi Mould. It happened to her. "There is a lot of personal value in it to me because I painted it with my son in mind," she said.

The original painting Cyndi created was proudly displayed outside her Lansdowne home. It had been there since July 4th of last year, two months after her son returned from serving in Afghanistan. It was his third tour.

"I come from a long line of veterans including my grandfather, my father, my husband and now my son," said Cyndi. She says one day last week, the sign was knocked over in her yard. Two days after that, it was gone.

"I would like to get it back. If it was to be returned anonymously I would be thrilled."

In the meantime, the proud military mom isn't letting what happened stop her from honoring her son, especially during the July 4th holiday.

"I obviously don't want to change it too much," she said with paint brush in hand. She's spent the past two days making what she calls a bigger and bolder sign with some changes but the eagle from the original remains.

"But I gave him a little more attitude," said Cyndi. She will finish the painting just in time to erect it where the stolen one used to be. It's also right along the town's yearly Independence Day parade route.

"Only an army mom will know the sense of pride and relief that comes over you when your child comes home from a war. So I was immensely disappointed because of the sentimental value the sign has to me," said Cyndi. She wants the original painting back to give to her son as a housewarming gift. He was recently stationed in Virginia.

If you know anything about who stole the painting, call Lansdowne Police.
