6 ways to spend July 4th in the DC area

WASHINGTON -

No doubt about it, the nation's capital is the best place to spend your Fourth of July. Here is a look at some events scheduled for Thursday's celebration:

1) America's National Independence Day Parade - Starting at 11:45 a.m., the parade features bands, fife and drum corps, floats and marches down Constitution Avenue from 7th to 17th.

2) A Capitol Fourth Concert - Barry Manilow will headline this year's concert on the lawn of the U.S. Capitol. Other notable guests include Glee's Darren Criss and Broadway's Megan Hilty of "Motown the Musical." The event will be broadcast on PBS and NPR for those who can't make it.

3) Independence Day Ice Cream Social at Tudor Place. This is a perfect, family-friendly activity. Housed in the Tudor Place estate, the event includes a tour of the historic site, a make-your-own sundae bar and plenty of games and crafts.

4) Nationals vs. Brewers - Start your fourth off right by watching Washington's home team take on Milwaukee. 11 a.m. at Nationals Park.

5) Frederick, Maryland's 4th has everything from bathtub races to live entertainment, food eating challenges and ends with a fireworks show at Parkway Elementary School.

6) Arlington's Festivities include performances by The Verve Pipe, Jeff From Accounting and the Grandsons. As well as games, arts and crafts and food.and
