Vietnam Veterans Memorial raising money for education center, seeking photos for wall

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

The people who raised the funds to build the Vietnam Veterans Memorial have taken on some new projects.

They are raising money for an education center approved by Congress.

They are also working to collect a photo of every person on the Memorial Wall. There are 58,000 names. That is ten times the number of Americans killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.

So far, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund has collected photos of 32,000 of the 58,000 killed. They are asking the public to help.

"We've found that one man or one woman can make a big difference,” says Jan Scruggs of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. “When someone decides to do this or the mayor of a city or [former] Governor Bill Richardson of New Mexico, he wanted all the photos from New Mexico. He was determined to do it and he did it with a lot of help.”
