Palisades Parkway Police say a 49-year-old man was rescued after he fell down a cliff in Alpine, New Jersey Sunday evening.

Julio Beltran, of Fairview, NJ, had intentionally walked around the bridge wall when he then slipped and fell from the Greenbrook Falls overpass around 6:30 p.m., according to police.

Officers arrived to Henry Hudson Drive, south of the Alpine Boat Basin and saw Beltran and another man, 36-year-old Juan Martinez of Cliffside Park, NJ. Martinez had climbed down to attempt to help Beltran, according to police.

Closter EMS and Rescue and the East Bergen Rappel Team were able to reach Beltran shortly and he was taken by an Air Medevac to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he suffered from multiple injuries.

Rescuers also saved Martinez who was not injured and walked away from the scene.

One firefighter from the Fort Lee FD received minor injuries during the rescue after he fell several feet before his rope line captured him.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is holding its monthly board meeting, two days after it heard from a panel on what it needs to do to improve its accountability and efficiency and restore public trust.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey could rescind a $1-a-year lease for a park-and-ride lot near the Lincoln Tunnel. The agency's chief of real estate and development told a committee Wednesday that it should change a deal made in 2012. Published reports have alleged that former Port Authority chairman David Samson voted to approve the lease even though his law firm did business with New Jersey Transit, which operates the park-and-ride lot.
