Police have identified the two young men who were struck and killed by a CSX train near the Marc-Garrett Park commuter rail station Wednesday night. It happened shortly after 11 p.m.
Police say Elvyn Rojas, 20, and Alejandro Uribe, 18, both of Wheaton, Md., were walking on the tracks when they were struck by a freight train.
There is a stationary warning bell at the rail crossing. Routinely, when trains come barreling through that small commuter station, they blow loud signals and are easily heard.
The grief-stricken families say the two young men were best friends.
Police have not determined why the men were walking on the tracks. At this time, detectives are investigating the deaths as accidental.
