Home Surrounded in South LA After Officer Shot in the Face

Posted: Updated:

Four hours after a parole search turned into a gun fight between the parolee and a probation officer and LAPD, the suspect was still holed up inside the house.

Police officers surrounded the house, while a police helicopter circled around and around with a spotlight focused right on the house.

At 11 o'clock, police still hadn't made contact with the suspect, Commander Andy Smith saying, time was in their side and they could wait him out before considering any kind of SWAT action.  Meantime, the LAPD officer who was shot in the face was taken into surgery.  At 11 pm, he was in critical condition.

Eastbound lanes of 105 closed between 110 and Central Avenue.  These are the third and fourth officers shot today; earlier this morning two officers were wounded in a shooting outside police station.
