Storm Damage In Glen Mills

Posted: Updated:
DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. -

"She was freaking out. I just told her…if there's wires around don't get out of the car."

Quite a scare for Fran Walsh's wife as she drove her van down Spring Valley Road in the Glen Mills area when severe weather rolled through.

"The storm's hitting hard and the wind's blowing leaves."

It sent a gigantic tree crashing down on the van. Just inches away from her head.

"She just happened to stop at the right time. Right when the tree fell onto the car was when she was stopping," said Fran Walsh.

"If the one branch didn't stop or the wires weren't there, the whole weight of the tree would have come right down on the car."

She's OK, but the van? Not so much.

"Big heavy branches here, pushed in here. Dent on the top," described Walsh.

Getting it out from under the tree was a challenge too.

"We had to get a guy with a chainsaw to cut a few branches…8 guys with a rope to help pull it out."

Emergency responders blocked off the area, preventing several people from getting to their homes.

"We said, 'Well we live here.'"

"'Well you can't get in. There's live wires, there's trees.'"

Eventually they were let in, and Walsh got the van running again. He was thankful his wife was not hurt.

"Pray for my wife and family's health every day and safety so yeah…Thank God."
