Possible Female Murder Suspect Carrying A Fake Gun, Killed By Police

(FOX 11 / CNS) A woman was shot by police today in an alley in Santa Ana, and died a short time later at a hospital, a police commander said.

Police opened fire shortly before 8 a.m. in the east alley in the 800 block of South Townsend Street, where two officers on patrol had confronted the woman, said Santa Ana police Cmdr. Eric Paulson.

"When they confronted the woman an officer-involved shooting occurred,'' Paulson said. Paramedics rushed the woman to an area hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 8:55 a.m., he said. "There was a handgun recovered in the alley that did not belong to the police,'' the police commander said. "It was unknown if she shot or did not shoot at the officers.''   No officers were injured, he said.

A woman was shot and killed after some sort of confrontation with two Santa Ana police officers Sunday morning.   Investigators closely examined evidence for hours after the shooting.

Fox 11 spoke to neighbors, "I heard some really loud gunshots and it woke me up. And that's not uncommon for this area," said Brad Farrell, one of those neighbors.  The has many problems with crime and gangs according to Police.

The officers involved in the shooting weren't hurt, they opened fire after trying to stop the woman in the alley.  She had what looked like a gun, but wasn't, police said it turned out to be a replica.

Investigators are looking into whether the woman killed is 35-year-old Jessica Gonzalez.  Gonzalez is wanted in Orange after she allegedly shot and killed her partner of 13 years, Jennifer Solorio.  That homicide happened Thursday.

Gonzalez was on the run and considered armed and dangerous and the Santa Ana Police Department was helping in the search for Gonzalez. 

The woman shot in the alley had no ID on her, so police can't confirm whether or not it was Gonzalez.
