The Maple Grove Police Department issued a crime alert on Wednesday to alert residents after two women reported being grabbed by a young man on city trails in the past nine days.
Police say the first incident took place last Monday night. A woman reported being touched inappropriately from behind while she was walking on a trail off the 11500 block of West Eagle Lake Drive at about 5:30 p.m.
At about 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning, a similar incident was reported on the Rice Lake trail off Weaver Lake Road and Interstate 94.
In both cases, the suspect fled on foot and hopped on a blue bicycle nearby.
"After she went past him, he pinched her in the buttocks and ran back to the bike and took off," Sgt. Tom Engels explained. "The woman this happened to was not injured. She actually tried to confront the person ... and they just took off."
Police say they are less concerned about what 16- to 19-year-old has already done, but they do worry he could be testing the waters to build up confidence for a more aggressive attack.
For now, officers are urging residents to be aware of their surroundings and call 911 with any information.
