ARLINGTON, Va. -

A flame from the gravesite of late President John F. Kennedy began its journey from Virginia to Ireland Tuesday morning.

Tuesday marks 50 years since his historic trip to the country in 1963.

The flame will be taken from the Eternal Flame at Arlington National Cemetery as part of a new memorial in Ireland.

The Eternal Flame was lit after Kennedy’s assassination just five months after that trip.
