If both sentenced, Jackson Jr. wants to go to prison before Sandi

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

If Jesse Jackson Jr. and his wife are both sentenced to time behind bars, Jesse says he wants to go to prison first.

On Monday, his lawyers filed court documents asking the judge to honor his request.

They are also fighting prosecutor's suggestion to have Jackson Jr. pay more than $1 million in fines and restitution. Jackson Jr. says his only income is social security and a federal pension, which will be cut if he goes to prison.

He and his wife Sandi will be sentenced July 3 for campaign finance violations and filing false income tax returns.
