Tree crashes onto Buckhead homes

Posted: Updated:
BUCKHEAD, Ga. -

A tree crashed through a home in Buckhead on Monday.

Charles Krauth said that as he was checking on damage by a falling branch at his home on Crane Road, he saw the tree fall through the roof and break into a wall.

Part of the old heavy tree shifted in the loose, wet ground, causing it to fall on the house.

"I kind of froze, didn't know what to think or expect next and just got out of the room, and then kind of realized what had happened.  I walked into the foyer and could through front door…that the tree was laying across the patio," Krauth said.

But the issues with the tree didn't stop there. After he moved out of the structure, the remaining part of the tree gave way, crushing a vacant home next door.

Krauth says he's a heavy sleeper but the overnight storms woke him up. He said he's just thankful no one was injured.

"These old trees fall down at some point, it just kind of stinks that it's on our bedroom," Krauth said.

Georgia Power crews restored power to the area after the tree brought down lines.

Krauth and his roommates are looking for another place to stay while repairs are being done to the home.
