Senate Dems' answer on health care: Go on offense

ATLANTA (AP) - Senate Democrats who backed the health care law and are facing re-election in GOP-leaning states are stepping up their support for the overhaul even as Republicans intensify their criticism.

Alaska's Mark Begich, Arkansas' Mark Pryor, Louisiana's Mary Landrieu and North Carolina's Kay Hagan will be on the ballot in 2014 for the first time since voting for the Affordable Care Act three years ago.

They aren't apologizing for that vote. Several are pursuing an aggressive strategy of embracing the law, helping people use it and fixing what doesn't work.

President Barack Obama's law seems certain to be central in the 2014 campaigns as Republicans look to retain House control and gain the six seats needed to run the Senate for the final two years of Obama's second term.
