WASHINGTON -

Shari Woods is holding something she hasn't touched in a while. It's a key to a home - an apartment where she and her husband can live for a little while.

"When I first seen it, they first showed it to me, I cried because it's something I can look forward to other than being on the street," says Woods.

Maritza Perez-Falero runs a D.C. non-profit called Building Futures. She was watching FOX 5 Thursday when we told you the story of Shari and her husband, Lee. Shari is pregnant with twins.

They lost their home to foreclosure and have lived on the streets in Washington for six months.

"It got to me. It got to me. I said, 'I have to call.' I have to find them a place," says Perez-Falero.

So she turned a meeting room into an efficiency apartment where Shari and her husband can live for two weeks.

"It is going to be a big, big, big deal to our lives," says Shari, who can't stop saying thank you. "Yesterday I was feeling down, feeling like nobody was there to help me. Now everybody is helping me and I feel so wonderful."

They now have a refrigerator and running water. They also have an address. It’s something they will need to find work and something many people take for granted.
