JOLIET, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

Just what led to the drowning of a southwest suburban man pulled from the Des Plaines River on Tuesday afternoon remains under investigation by authorities in Will County.

Ricky T. Neal, 31, of Joliet, died from apparent drowning, the Will County Coroner's office said Wednesday morning.

The final determination of manner of death (suicide or accident) was pending a police investigation, as well as full autopsy and toxicology results, the coroner's office said.

Joliet Deputy Fire Chief Ray Randich said the man was spotted about 3:51 p.m. Tuesday on the western river wall of the river by employees of the Joliet Police Department.

The man was in the water for 39 minutes, but showed vital signs before he was taken to Presence St. Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, where he was pronounced dead at 4:59 p.m., according to the Will County Coroner's office.

"I was all dressed and we were able to get the boat launched right as we got to there," said Dive Team Capt. Ron Fox who pulled the man from the murky water.
