Displaced students may not return to DC schools

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

Thirteen D.C. schools will be permanently closed at the end of June

But it appears many of the impacted students may not come back to the city's traditional public schools.

The Washington Post reports that just 13 percent of students have signed up to attend their designated receiving school.

About half of those receiving schools have filled less than 30 percent of their available seats for next year.

D.C. Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson says enrollment numbers could be low because families wait until late in the summer to turn in their paperwork.
