NEW RIVER, Ariz. -

The mother of a 2-year-old girl found wandering around a neighborhood in Anthem has been arrested. Maricopa County Sheriff's officials received a 911 call around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday about a toddler who was found wandering near Morse Court and National Trail by herself.

The 2-year-old girl, later identified as Skylyn Altizer, was wearing a dark blue shirt, no shoes and a saturated diaper.  She appeared to be in good condition.

"My son got up.. getting ready to go to work.. he opened the garage door and found this little girl behind his pickup.. he come into my bedroom and said 'Look what I found' and that was 4:30 this morning," said neighbor J. Deherrara.

"It's too bad.. like she's out here at that time of the morning, I mean there's a lot of stuff out here in Anthem.. you got coyotes.. javelinas.. it's strange that she's even outside," he added.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they began a door to door search in a 3-block radius, looking for an open door, a light on in a residence or a frantic parent.

When no leads were found, deputies contacted Child Protective Services and MCSO to do a reverse 911 notification around the area.

By 6:45 a.m., someone watching the reports about the child on television recognized Skylyn and notified MCSO.  That person provided the child's home address.

At approximately 7:03 a.m., Skylyn's mother, 22-year-old Nichole Hockett, arrived at the scene where her daughter was found.  Hockett told a CPS worker she was staying at a friend's home which was about 100 yards from where Skylyn was found.

"CPS decided to take temporary custody of Skylyn as the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and CPS investigate," stated Deputy Joaquin Enriquez.

Hockett was taken into custody Tuesday night on suspicion of child abuse and endangerment.
