PHOENIX -

An early morning fire near 24th Street between Southern and Baseline destroyed a valley home and displaced three people on Saturday.

"I heard popping sounds, like someone was on the roof. I ran outside and it was all fire," said Gary Strand Jr.

Gary Strand Jr. Feels lucky to be alive.

He says he and his family were asleep when their home went up in flames.

"Not even three minutes, the whole house was up in flames," said Strand. "I went around the house, I see flames, I grabbed a hose. I was trying to put it out, it was just too hot. I couldn't breathe, I started spraying myself with water, I had to back off."

The three people inside made it out safely.

They weren't able to save several family pets, a liter of kittens.

A spokesperson for the Phoenix Fire Department says the blaze moved too quickly.

"It was fully involved so we didn't go inside. We fought the fire mainly from outside. We did have some exposures on both sides because...it is like a mobile home situation and the exposures are pretty close to each other," said Capt. Harvey Hines.

All of the contents of the home--shoes, clothes and furniture--were destroyed by the fire.

The residents tell us they have nothing left and no where to go.

The owner of the trailer says that he doesn't have insurance.

"This was the last original trailer here in this park. I've been trying to take care of it for years since I've owned it, now this has happened. I don't know what I am going to do," said KEN STANTON, trailer owner.

Investigators were on scene immediately and are calling the fire suspicious, but aren't releasing more details.

In the meantime, the Red Cross is assisting the family.
