BURBANK, Ill. (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A 59-year-old motorist died early Thursday after crashing into a home in southwest suburban Burbank.

Marlene Walter, from the nearby suburb of Chicago Ridge, struck the home after losing control of her vehicle in the 5400 block of State Road about 2:42 a.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

At the time Walter was headed to work in Chicago when she hit a traffic barrier near and careened out of control into the home, said Division Chief Mike Dudlow of the Burbank police.

Walter, of the 6000 block of South Marshall Avenue, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where she died about an hour later, according to a medical examiner's office official.

Residents were at home at the time of the crash, but were not injured, Dudlow said.

Police said there was significant damage to the home but could not estimate a dollar amount.

"Obviously a car struck it," Dudlow said.

Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the crash, police said.
