Atlantic's First Tropical Storm Of 2013 To Bring Rain Our Way

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

Hurricane hunters were in the Gulf of Mexico all afternoon, trying to find the center of circulation, and we now officially have our first named Atlantic storm of the 2013 season.

Its name is Andrea, and right now it is churning in the Gulf. We've been talking about this system all week long and how it will bring some tropical moisture in our area.

Late Wednesday night, the storm's maximum sustained winds remained at 40 miles an hour. Its movement was picking up a little at 6 miles per hour to the north.

It's not organized very well. But it's bringing showers and thunderstorms right now to Florida peninsula, and this moisture will eventually head in our direction as we move into the latter part of the week.

We had beautiful weather in our area Wednesday as we hit a high of 81 – one degree above average for this time of year. The humidity was low, at just below 30 percent.

Big weather changes are ahead, though, with increasing clouds overnight. We'll stay dry and pleasant, and then Thursday looks mostly cloudy.

FOX 29 Chief Meteorologist Scott Williams says he does anticipate some Thursday-evening and then overnight rainfall, as we track a frontal boundary headed this way. That is tropical moisture from Andrea.

So, Friday right now looks like it's going to be a soaker with showers and thunderstorms from that system.

It looks like right now that we'll see some early clouds and early showers Saturday, but we will salvage most of the weekend.

Temperatures respond nicely as the system pulls away, and we dry out into the low 80s for the weekend. Then, it's pop-up showers, storms and warming into the mid-80s for early next week.

Enjoy the dry weather now!
