'Job Killer' Bills Killed in Legislative Session

Posted: Updated:

Every year, the California Chamber of Commerce releases its list of bills it deems "job killers," legislation it says will decimate economic growth in California.

On Monday, the CalChamber is celebrating a bit of a victory, because only five of its list of 37 "job killer" bills survived the first half of the legislative session in Sacramento.

Gary Toebben, president of L.A.'s Chamber of Commerce, tells our investigative producer Heidi Cuda, it signals a sea change in Sacramento.

"More than six hundred thousand people who are unemployed today, were not unemployed at the start of the great recession," he says. "In L.A. County, that number exceeds two hundred thousand. That's a lot of people still looking for work. The economy of California, while recovering, is a long way from fully recovered. Their legislative representatives are now thinking about that when they vote on very important pieces of legislation."

This week we want to make a federal case for Joseph (1998) finding a forever family, so we obtained the necessary clearances to accompany Joseph to the Los Angeles Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). And during our friendly investigation, we found Joseph to be a dynamic teen with a good bit of focus and determination for someone his age.

California motorists are burdened with the highest gas tax in the nation: 71 cents for every gallon of gas purchased. If that was not enough, along comes AB-32 that mandates that vehicle fuel production will be, in effect, taxed beginning in 2015.
