911 calls detail frantic moments after SUV stolen with child inside

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Authorities have released 911 calls detailing a mother's frantic efforts to rescue her son after her car had been stolen with him inside.

Hilary Grotewold was putting air in her tire when a man jumped into her SUV and drove off.  Grotewold's young son, Jarren, was strapped in the backseat.

Grotewold says she first jumped on the hood, and then tried to grab onto a mirror, but she fell off as the suspect sped away.  She said she chased the SUV to a nearby CVS pharmacy.

The suspect apparently abandoned the SUV after realizing there was a child in the back.  He got away with Grotewold's purse and iPhone.

Police are now working to find the culprit and say surveillance video from the gas station may help.
