An Alexandria police officer who was shot in the head during a traffic stop has filed a lawsuit against a taxicab company.

Officer Peter Laboy is suing Alexandria Yellow Cab for $10 million, alleging the company’s hiring and supervision of its drivers was negligent and contributed to the shooting.

Authorities say Laboy, 45, was shot once in the head after attempting to pull over a taxicab on February 27. Kashif Bashir, who worked as a driver for Alexandria Yellow Cab for four years, has been charged in Laboy’s shooting.

Laboy was released from the hospital on April 23.

An Alexandria Yellow Cab executive says they cannot comment due to litigation that is still pending.
