Woman maced, kidnapped, raped in Southeast DC

WASHINGTON -

D.C. police are asking for help in connection with a brazen daytime kidnapping and sexual assault in Southeast D.C.

A 30-year-old woman walking in the 3700 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue Wednesday was maced by a man in an SUV that pulled up beside her. Two other men jumped out, put a bag over her head, and threw her in the vehicle.

Police say she was driven to an unknown location and raped.

After the attack, the men forced her out of the SUV and fled.

Police are hoping surveillance video may offer some clues, but what they really need is a tip from the public.

"We don't have any other cases like this,” says Lt. Vendette Parker. “It's a heinous crime and we don't want it to happen to anyone else. If you saw something or know something, no matter how small, please give us a call at 202-727-9099."

There is a job center, a medical clinic and a dry cleaner in the block. Women working there are taking their safety more seriously now.

"I'm always conscious of my surroundings," Brittany Bivens says. "I will be extra cautious now."

Anyone with information can contact the D.C. Police tipline at 202-727-9099 or through the text tipline by text messaging 50411.
