WASHINGTON -

It is stolen property you might not expect: a tiny, fuzzy kitten.

Her name is Callista. She disappeared from the Washington Humane Society shelter on New York Avenue in Northeast this past Sunday.

Employees concluded that somebody may have just walked right out the door with her. They reported it to D.C. police.

Investigators gathered all the evidence - including surveillance video and sign-in sheets. Within hours, they recovered her at a house.

Police say they have made no arrests, but do have a person interest.

Callista is eight weeks old and she will be available for adoption soon. There is already a long line, but don't worry, there are other options.

"She's very lucky,” says Lisa LaFontaine, CEO of the Washington Humane Society. “She's got a whole line of people and what I would say is we have a long line of kittens. If people are touched by her story, we have another 200 kittens and probably another 150 or so dogs who are looking for loving homes."
