Shohreh Aghdashloo: I Love Your Country, And Our Country

Posted: Updated:

"I had a big mouth. I knew there was no place for me." That's one of the many honest things Shohreh Aghdashloo says about her life in Iran and her decision to leave. She's written a memoir about her life in that country and the transition to Hollywood called "The Alley of Love and Yellow Jasmines".

Even though Shohreh was Oscar nominated for "House of Sand and Fog" and won an Emmy for "House of Saddam", it's her role on "24" that brought her the most attention...and not the good kind. The actress tells Steve and Maria about the pact she made with the show's producers about how her role would be written and the backlash she received from some Iranians for playing a terrorist. Shohreh also jokes about the extra attention she still gets at airports because of that part.

Fun facts about Shohreh:

  • After establishing a theatre and film career in Iran, Aghdashloo moved to England during the Iranian Revolution in 1979, and subsequently became a citizen of the United States.
  • Her performance in House of Sand and Fog (2003) brought her several film critics' awards and a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
