BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJBK) -

PulteGroup has announced its plans to relocate its corporate offices from Bloomfield Hills to Atlanta, GA.

It released a statement saying:

"We have historically managed our growth from Michigan, but the Company has reached a point where we must pursue a strategy that better fits with the long-term growth trends for our company and industry. This relocation will bring us closer to our customers and a larger portion of our investment portfolio."

Pulte is one of the nation's largest home builders, bringing in more than $4.5 billion last year. Pulte was founded in Detroit back in 1950 by William Pulte.

The move is expected to re-locate about 300 jobs to Atlanta, along with millions of dollars in tax revenue.

Several Michigan officials have reacted to the news, including Governor Snyder.  He reportedly discussed the situation Friday during a business conference on Mackinac Island. He said he'd asked PulteGroup CEO Richard Dugas whether anything could be done to reverse the decision, and was told there wasn't.

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson also released a statement saying he was "disappointed" with the relocation.

Quicken Loans founder Dan Gilbert also responded to the news, tweeting: "If rumor true @Pultehomes is moving HQ to Atlanta then punk CEO & invertebrate board even worse than its P&L last 5 years &that's hard to do."

Snyder adds some good news, however.  The company's homebuilding operations will remain in Oakland County, but the loss of the PulteGroup headquarters shows that Michigan still needs to improve its business climate.
