A woman was fatally shot by a Loudoun County Sheriff's deputy after authorities say she threatened employees with a knife and scissors at a Sterling-area Costco store.

Authorities say they received a report of a disorderly person at the store around 3 p.m. Wednesday.

The sheriff's office say two deputies confronted 38-year-old Mhai Scott of Sterling, Va., and gave her several commands to drop the knife and scissors. The woman advanced towards the deputies and one of the them fired a Taser, but it was ineffective.

A second deputy fired multiple shots at the woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Scott was an employee for Club Demonstration Services, a vendor that serves food at the Costco store. Witnesses say the woman was handing out pizza samples prior to the shooting.

Authorities say a deputy suffered a gunshot wound to his leg, possibly from a ricochet, and was taken to a local hospital. He is in good condition and has been released.

FOX 5 Photojournalist Jason Smith (@FOXPhotog) tweets eyewitnesses report hearing four or five gunshots and the shooting was near the deli counter.

Statement from Don Dohanyos, President of Club Demonstration Services, regarding Wednesday's incident:

"We are extremely saddened by the situation that occurred at the Costco warehouse in Sterling, VA earlier today. We are treating this with the utmost sensitivity, and are cooperating fully with the authorities as they gather more details on the events leading up to the shooting of our CDS associate. In the meantime, our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was affected by this event."
