Cubs, White Sox united behind Blackhawks

CHICAGO (AP) -- The Cubs and crosstown rival White Sox have at least one thing in common this week -- their support for the Chicago Blackhawks.
 
   The Blackhawks host the Detroit Red Wings in the deciding Game 7 of the Western Conference semifinal series on Wednesday night at the United Center.
 
   Chicago's baseball teams are scheduled to play the third of four games this week Wednesday afternoon (1:20 p.m.) at Wrigley Field, and several players and coaches from both sides hope to make it for the Hawks' opening faceoff at 7 p.m.
 
   "Of course," Cubs manager Dale Sveum said when asked if he'll be at the hockey game. "Not too many times Game 7s come around.
 
   "Especially being in town at the same time playing a day game, you got to do everything you can to make that game," he said.
 
   Sveum is hoping for a quick game against the White Sox, certainly not an extra-inning affair.
 
   "We'll make it," he said. "They'll hold the game up for us."
 
   White Sox first baseman Paul Konerko also expects to be on hand for the crucial game.
 
   "It's kind of a dream for me," Konerko said. "I'll definitely take it in. I watch a lot of hockey."
 
   Konerko may appreciate the game a bit more than others.
 
   "I was born in Rhode Island and spent time in Connecticut for a while," said Konerko, whose father taught him to play hockey. "I played until I was 15-16 years old. I still get out and skate when I can."
 
   The Stanley Cup, which the Blackhawks won three seasons ago, has a special place in Konerko's heart.
 
   "I can go back to every year since I can probably remember and tell you every Stanley Cup winner from then on, tell you the captain that lifted the Cup."
