Michigan relief workers return home from Oklahoma

Posted: Updated:
WATERFORD, Mich. (MyFox Detroit) -

As people in Oklahoma struggled to pick up the pieces after last week's tornadoes, they got some much-needed assistance from a group from right here in Michigan.

Members of Disaster Relief at Work, or DRAW, travel across the country providing aid to those hit by natural disasters. They left for Oklahoma City Tuesday last week.

We caught up with DRAW's Greg Martin at Detroit Metro Airport on Tuesday before he left, and asked him about the goals of his upcoming trip to Oklahoma. "Try to catch up with city officials, try to talk to the teachers in the neighborhood, try to talk to the people who live there to find out who needs what," Martin said.

Martin and the others returned home to Waterford Monday evening, as most Memorial Day observances where winding down. Fox 2 was there to greet them when they arrived.

Click on the video player to learn more about what DRAW was able to accomplish in Oklahoma.

DRAW has already helped in 10 other disasters in the past year.

Volunteers filled buckets with everything from restoration materials to cleaning supplies at an Oakland County warehouse.

DRAW can always use help preparing buckets for its relief efforts. If you'd like to fill a bucket of your own, log on to drawbuckets.org.
