20th anniversary of Junior Burdynski's disappearance

Posted: Updated:

A new age progression picture is giving George “Junior” Burdynski's family renewed hope that he will be found alive. The computer enhanced picture shows what Burdynski would like today as a 30-year-old.

The photo is being shared on various social media sites, including the "Justice for Junior" Facebook page, where it has gotten hundreds of "Likes.”

Junior's sister, Virginia Burdynski, is helping to spearhead the social media effort.

"It helps because at the time, he was 10 years old, so that way, people can have an image to look for him as a 30-year-old,” she says.

On May 24, 1993, 10-year-old Junior Burdynski got on his bike and rode away from his Brentwood, Md., home. He nor his bike were ever seen again.

There was a massive manhunt and hundreds of leads.

Eventually, three men who the FBI discovered were connected to a child exploitation ring in the Mid-Atlantic were arrested, but none faced charges in connection to Junior's disappearance.

Virginia says her family has never lost hope that there will be justice for Junior.

On this 20th anniversary of his disappearance, the Burdynskis have asked their neighbors and friends to leave on their porch lights for the 10-year-old who never came home and for the family that has never stopped looking and praying.

"That just gives us hope that possibly Junior could still be alive and be somewhere, and that one day he too might come home,” Virginia says.

The new photo of Junior is also on the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children’s website. Detectives hope the new attention will lead to some clues and closure for the Burdynski family.
