COLLEGE PARK, Ga. -

Authorities say more than a dozen people were injured in an accident involving a hotel shuttle bus near Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport on Friday morning.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) says the shuttle bus collided with a tractor-trailer on North Loop Road around 10:30 a.m.   The shuttle bus services Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn and Hilton Garden Inn.

According to Atlanta fire crews, the shuttle, which was part of the MTI Limo and Shuttle Services fleet, was on its way to the airport when the crash happened.  Ten patients were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, and at least six more were taken to Atlanta Medical Center.  Dr. Leon Haley, who is the chief of emergency medicine at Grady, said two patients there would be admitted.

Authorities originally said that the shuttle bus driver had several broken bones, but officials later determined that the injuries were not as severe as initially feared.

Passengers on the bus-- who were not wearing seatbelts when the crash happened-- suffered injuries including broken bones and cuts.

FOX 5's Justin Gray reports that six of the 10 patients at Grady Memorial Hospital had been discharged as of 10 p.m. The other four, including a 12-year-old child, remained hospitalized at Grady. Two of those remaining were in serious condition, including one person who suffered a collapsed lung, while another has two broken shoulders.

Over at Atlanta Medical Center, where at least six people were transported, two patients had been released by 6 p.m. The others remained in fair condition, according to FOX 5's Chris Shaw.

The Georgia State Patrol and College Park Police Department are investigating the crash, but they say it appears the driver of the tractor-trailer was trying to make a legal U-turn on North Loop Road when the hotel shuttle bus T-boned it.

FOX 5's Chris Shaw described the wreckage left behind at the crash scene as "stunning."  He shot raw video inside the shuttle bus, showing a tangled mess of seats and luggage racks.  From the looks of it, the impact was incredible.

The view from SKYFOX 5 above the scene showed lots of skid marks in the roadway which were left behind by the shuttle bus.

Authorities are determining if any charges will be filed against either driver. By law, passengers are required to wear seat belts if they are provided. There were seat belts in the bus, so there is a chance that passengers could be cited. An officer said it was unlikely that those passenger would be charged.

The investigation could take several days, authorities said.
