A cab driver accused in the shooting of an Alexandria police officer in February has been indicted by a grand jury.

Kashif Bashir is facing one count of aggravated malicious wounding, one count of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer and two counts of the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Officer Peter Laboy was on his motorcycle attempting to pull over a taxicab when he was shot in the head. The bullet fragmented and only a portion of the projectile went into his brain. A day after the shooting, Dr. Janis Orlowski, the Chief Medical Officer for MedStar Washington Hospital Center, said, "It's remarkable that he is alive."

Laboy was released from the hospital on April 23.
