ANNAPOLIS, Md -

Navy plebes climbed the Herndon Monument in the traditional monument climb in Annapolis. The 21 foot monument is covered in lard.

It's an annual tradition for about a thousand members of the Naval Academy's class to form a human pyramid around the monument trying to get to the top. They try to remove a plebe hat, or Dixie cup, that upper-classmen put on the top.

Alex Jackson reports on Twitter @thealexjackson "They did it in 1:32:43, one second slower than in 07, fastest since then."

The record is 1 minute 30 secs from 1969.
