Shots fired into Fulton County school bus

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. -

Authorities say someone fired shots into a Fulton County school bus filled with students.

Police say the driver, who serves Creekside High School, calmly steered her bus to a stop even as a bullet pierced and shattered a window with 17 students on board.

The shots were fired in the middle of rush hour at the busy south Fulton County intersection of Highway 29 and Highway 138. Authorities said two teens pull up next to the bus and fired; one of the shots shattered a window.

"Shots start going off, and instead of flooring it or just crashing the bus in the side of the road, driving through an intersection without yielding the bus driver calmly stopped the bus," Sgt. A. Bazydlo of the Fairburn Police Department.

Authorities later determined a pellet gun was used in the incident.

The bus driver was able to get the license tag. Authorities said they have a suspect in the shooting.

Some parents were upset that no one had told them of the incident.

"My child rides the bus and I want to know. And it's a bad thing that we don't know. I will go to school now and go in the school to find out," said one parent.

Other bus drivers serving Creekside High also told FOX 5 that they didn't know about the incident.

The head of the PTA said that the school's principal told them that because the incident occurred off of campus, that parents did not have to be notified through the normal process.
