CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) -

A motorist was taken in serious condition to a hospital after crashing into a school bus on the West Side Thursday morning.

About 7 a.m. the driver of a pickup crashed into the school bus near West Chicago and North Long avenues in the Austin neighborhood, authorities said.

No one was injured aboard the school bus, which was transporting "a couple of kids" at the time of the crash, said police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan, citing preliminary information.

Sullivan said one of the vehicles apparently struck a pole after the initial collision.

The driver of the pickup was taken in serious but "stable" condition to West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, authorities said.

No further details were available.
