CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

Since National Dog Bite Prevention week begins next week, Good Day Chicago wants to help you learn how to protect yourself in the event of a dog attack and the proper way to say hello to a pup you don't know.

Dog attacks are a big problem in the Chicago area and the entire state of Illinois. FOX 32's Anita Padilla knows first-hand, after she and her dog were attacked by a pitbull last Thursday. Samson, her boxer, is on the mend.

Good Day spoke with Prevent the Bite, a group based in the northwest suburbs, which teaches the public how to walk away from a stray dog safely, how to protect yourself in an attack and how W.A.I.T. method works.
