ATLANTA -

Dozens of catalytic converters have been stolen in one section of Atlanta in just the past few days. Police say the thieves are targeting Honda Elements.

Several thefts have occurred in one neighborhood near Grant Park.

"I looked underneath car and could see all kinds of parts and pieces laying under there," said Mari Atwell.

Police say the thieves are specifically targeting Honda Elements because it's easier to disconnect the part on Elements.

"There's been 26 vehicles in Zone 6 but then each of the other zones are experiencing a number of them as well," said Officer John Chafee of the Atlanta Police Department.

A neighbor's security camera caught sight of the alleged lookout man and getaway car when Dana Dojnik's catalytic converter was stolen on Monday.

"Yeah, you're going to get a hundred dollars for that, but it cost me $1,200 to get that fixed. We don't have that growing on trees around here either," Dojnik said.

Mark Singletary decided to add something called a "cat clamp" for protection after thieves hit his car.

"It's basically a series of braided wires that are loose and would be hard to cut," said Singletary.

Atlanta police said they are increasing patrols in Grant Park and other neighborhoods where they're seeing the spike in thefts. They say they did arrest someone recently in another neighborhood. They've been looking and watching for the suspects behind this string of thefts. They say it looks like a team of three people.
