Meth lab busted in Capitol Heights neighborhood

Posted: Updated:
CAPITOL HEIGHTS, Md. -

A Capitol Heights neighborhood is a lot safer after a raid on a home there.

A team of 15 agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) suited up in hazmat suits to go inside the house on Bayou Avenue. They found what is being described as a significant methamphetamine lab.

Neighbor Patricia Williams were unnerved by the raid.

“When we saw them putting their uniforms on, that scared us," Williams says.

Supervising Special Agent Shawn Ellerman says the house is now considered a toxic waste site.

That is why getting it out of the neighborhood was top priority for the DEA, which had it under surveillance after getting a tip about the meth lab.

It is all a little too close to home for Williams.

"My fear is if anything would have blown up, with all the trees around here, it could have easily got to our properties," says Williams.

Two men were arrested at the house, and the DEA says more arrests could follow.

"This is just one stop among more we expect to make in the coming days and weeks -- in our effort to arrest and prosecute all of those we feel are responsible for this criminal activity," says Supervising Special Agent Ellerman.
