Weekend Roundup: Burger Lounge, Ice Cream Lab & Ozomatli

FOX 11's food and fun expert Mar Yvette searches the Los Angeles area for some of the best places to eat, drink, shop and have a great time. Featured guests then swarm our FOX Television Center parking lot every Thursday morning between 9am and 10am on Good Day LA, creating a big party as one jam-packed segment known as the Weekend Roundup!

Burger Lounge

You know that May is National Burger Month, right? So of course we're celebrating with a cookout from Burger Lounge, home of the 100% grass-fed burger. This small restaurant chain started in San Diego and has expanded to LA with its fresh approach to fast-casual dining. That means grass-fed beef sourced from two family-run farms, free-range turkey, housemade sauces and vegetarian options including salads and an organic quinoa burger. (I love it! Even better, in honor of National Burger Month, you can get a FREE BURGER! Just stop by at the specified location from 5pm-7pm and you can receive a free burger for a friend with the purchase of a burger. Offer is good on Monday, May 20 at the West Hollywood location; Tuesday, May 21 in Beverly Hills; and Wednesday, May 22 in Santa Monica.


Ice Cream Lab

Unlike any other ice cream shop, Ice Cream Lab in Beverly Hills doesn't scoop its flavors out of giant tubs. Nope. That would be too boring. Instead, this liquid nitrogen ice cream parlor creates your made-to-order treat right before your eyes. First they add the milk, then the fresh fruit (or whatever other ingredients you might choose) in the specially made 50-pound mixers. Next, they instantly freeze the ingredients thanks to the smokin' cold liquid nitro at 320 degrees BELOW ZERO! The final result? A ridiculously tasty and creamy dessert. The menu switches up regularly, but a few of my current faves I highly recommend: Salt Lick Crunch, vanilla ice cream mixed with pretzels, caramel and sea salt; Banilla made with vanilla ice cream, fresh bananas, caramel and Nilla wafers; and Strawberry Cheesecake made with strawberries, cream cheese frosting and graham crackers. Oh, and don't forget their already-famous Blue Velvet Cupcake.



You might not know how to describe their sound, but one thing's for sure: It's always a party with Ozomatli! The Grammy-winning seven-piece band has been breaking down barriers and uniting people through song since 1995 with their energetic mix of Latin, hip-hop, jazz, funk, reggae, rock and everything in between. Reflecting the multicultural landscape of their native Los Angeles, the group has traveled the world as cultural ambassadors, received the National Council of LA Raza's Humanitarian Award and have performed twice for President Barack Obama. The band is constantly on the road, but you have a chance to see them in person on Sunday, May 19 at The TASTE of Hawthorne where they will be headlining the fun family event. Put on your dancing shoes!
