PHOENIX -

A valley mother of nine was arraigned in court Monday morning.

Nina Koistinen is accused of killing her 6-day-old daughter, Maya Hope Koistinen.

According to police, Nina told detectives she pinched Maya's nose, then twisted, suffocated and smothered her -- because she had too many kids and was jealous of the attention her husband Brad was giving the baby.

Her husband says she has mental disorders.  Back in April, he stated "She's been mixed up before where she thinks I'm God.. when she's not on her medication.  Things aren't right and she needs serious mental help."

Nina was charged with second degree murder.

A judge entered a not guilty plea on Nina's behalf.
