Man Shot and Killed On South Street

Posted: Updated:

It's becoming an all too familiar theme in Philadelphia's South Street area.  Another robbery and this one turned deadly.

Philadelphia police tell Fox 29 two men attacked a man early Sunday morning as he headed into his apartment above a "Häagen-Dazs" ice cream shop near Third and South Streets.  The victim, who had a key to the business, was walking through to his home when the two followed him inside.  Moments later shots rang out, and the man who friends say is a local DJ, lay dead.  Investigators say he was loading DJ equipment into his apartment at the time of the robbery.

Friends described the victim as caring and friendly.  "He's very nice, very kind, like everybody knows, he always wanted to take someone in, always." said Jess Smith, a local bartender who went to the murder scene Sunday afternoon with other friends to lay flowers and pay respects to the man who has become the latest victim to robbery and gun fire in the south street area.

Late last month a local pharmacist was shot and robbed walking home from work near Fourth and Pine streets in Society Hill.  In July of 2012 Michael Hagan, a 32-year old IT Consultant, was murdered at Fourth and Lombard.  No arrests have been made in any of the attacks.  Detectives have not said if any of the robberies are related.
