DETROIT (WJBK) -

A security guard on patrol was shot and killed in Detroit.  He was watching over GNB Optical on the city's west side when he became another victim of deadly gun violence.

The 66-year-old guard was in his car when sources said a man tried to rob him.

"I heard three gunshots, and I was thinking that maybe it was a couple blocks away, but it was right down the street," one person said.

"They commenced to locking the doors, and they said no one could leave because a security guard had just been shot," another individual explained.

The guard was fatally wounded, but he was able to fire one shot striking the suspect.  The guard died at the hospital.

Police arrested the suspect at the hospital.  Unlike his victim, he is expected to survive, and plenty more are hoping this senseless violence comes to an end.

"It sucks when things like this can happen to you when you're just trying to do the right thing and make money to provide for your family.  It's getting rough out here," one person remarked.
