DC considering plan to hire more parking enforcement officers

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON -

D.C. leaders are considering a plan to increase the number of parking enforcement officers.

Under a proposal released on Thursday, the District would hire 30 new parking enforcement officers to patrol neighborhood areas away from downtown. The plan also calls for raising the price of a street cleaning parking violation from $30 to $45.

Councilmember Mary Cheh is backing the plan after hearing from frustrated residents who say there is not enough enforcement of parking in their neighborhoods.

In 2012, the District handed out almost two million tickets, which generated about $92 million.
