Thieves strike Morrow High as students celebrate prom

MORROW, Ga. -

Officials at Morrow High School said that 50 iPods were stolen from the school as students celebrated their prom over the weekend.

School officials say thieves broke into the school while students and staff were at an Atlanta hotel for prom on Saturday night.

"We realized it immediately. An alarm went off. These folks were in and out of the school very. Very quickly. They knew exactly where they were going and exactly what they were after," said David Waller of Clayton County Schools.

Thieves took 50 Apple iPod Classics that the school uses to download lessons to help students catch up on their work.

"When we lose technology like that, it cuts to the core of what we're trying to do and frankly, it takes a special kind of jerk to break into a school and steal from the children. That's the bottom line. It hurts us, it hurts our kids, it hurts our county," Waller said.

On Monday, a 15-year-old student who allegedly had one of the stolen iPods in his possession was picked up at the school. Authorities also arrested 18-year-old Alan Gray a student at Luella High School in Henry County in connection with the crime.

Clayton County police said that many of the iPods have been recovered and they expect more arrests in the case.
