Brooks Patterson compares MI House leader Jase Bolger to Hitler

Posted: Updated:

Oakland County Republican L. Brooks Patterson, upset over the manner in which Republicans are handling the no fault car insurance issue, has called the GOP Speaker of the House, "Adolph" Bolger, an obvious reference to former Nazi leader Adolph Hitler.

Patterson, on statewide public TV show 'Off the Record' hosted by Tim Skubick, pulled out a comb to symbolize Hitler's mustache in reference to his criticism of GOP leader Jase Bolger.

Patterson accuses Bolger of retaliating against Mr. Patterson because he opposes the no fault bill.

Mr. Patterson's outburst was triggered after his staffer was denied an opportunity to testify on the bill during a committee meeting on Thursday.

When asked about Jase Bolger, Patterson says, "You mean Adolph Bolger? He's really become very arrogant and he throws his weight around. I think he's embarrassing himself and if he thinks he's going to run for governor he better get control of his temper."

Skubick asked Patterson if his reference to Hitler was over the top.  "Yes, I want it to be over the top. It was childish to not let my office testify.  He's (Bolger) is using his power to screen a out anyone who is against him," says Patterson.

Meanwhile, Patterson posted an apology Friday evening on Twitter.  "I alienated some in Jewish comm. when I called the Speaker "Adolf."  I was commenting on his leadership style.  To those offended I apologize," the county executive tweeted.
