NEW JERSEY (MYFOXNY.COM) -

Jon Bon Jovi and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie visited the Turning Point drug rehabilitation center in Paterson to sign into law a bill aimed saving the lives of people who overdose on drugs.

The law protects someone from prosecution who calls for help for someone who has overdosed even if the person is wanted by the law. It also protects the person who overdosed from jail time.

Bon Jovi has a personal connection to this law his daughter Stephanie overdosed in college in New York, where this law is already in place. Stephanie's friend called 911. She lived, and neither faced charges.

Many parents who lost children to a drug overdoses watched the bill get signed into law.

Jill Lazare believes this bill would have saved her 23-year-old daughter, Brooke, a paralegal from Summit who died in a motel of a drug overdose.
